As the 2010s are coming to a close this week(!), it's amazing to think about the advances in tech gadgets from the past ten years. TIME Magazine recently published a list of the 10 best gadgets of the decade and the Nintendo Switch made the list!
I was thrilled to see the Switch on TIME's list as I've had one since it launched and I use it just as much now as I did three years ago. Keep reading below for four things I love about my Switch.
1. It's worth it just to play The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.
When I got my Switch in 2017, I purposefully only bought Breath of the Wild and chose to not purchase any other games that summer. I spent three months playing Zelda and I felt (and still feel) that the Switch is worth it just for this game alone. Breath of the Wild is absolute beauty and really redefined what games looked like for me.
2. Welcome to the future, you hybrid console you.
When someone talks about a gaming console, generally your mind goes to a box-like item that you plug into the wall and your TV. But not the Switch. The Switch looks like a giant GameBoy that sits in a dock attached to your TV. And when you want to play on the go, you just pick the Switch up from the dock and continue playing. That's right, the Nintendo Switch is a hybrid console that can be played on your living room TV or in your hands on a plane.
3. Nintendo's game availability continues to be great.
My most played console as a child has to be our Nintendo 64. We played so much Mario Kart, Super Mario 64 and Mario Party that I'm surprised our controllers could still function. I've always loved Nintendo's games and I still do. The latest ones on the Switch are beautiful and so very fun. My husband and I bought Luigi's Mansion 3 on release day this year and have had a blast playing it. Props to Nintendo who has been able to keep our love for these characters as strong as it was when I was 10 years old.
4. The Pro Controller is my favorite of any console.
The Switch ships with a set of Joy-Con controllers that attach to the sides of the system. This makes handheld gaming easy and feels like you're playing a giant GameBoy. I have small hands, so the Joy-Cons fit me just fine, but they can be a little cramping for my husband's hands. That's where the Pro Controller shines. Purchased separately, the Pro Controller is a larger, wireless controller that connects to your Switch. It has the best feel of any gaming controller I've ever used and it's always our go-to when sitting down to play.
There's so many more reasons I love my Nintendo Switch, but I think these top four help solidify why I'm happy it's on TIME's list for the best gadgets of the decade.
Now if you'll excuse me, I'm off to continue Pokémon Shield...
